Prioritising study success

An institution's main source system, where students are the main point of focus

CACI concentrates on Higher Education with OSIRIS and keeps a close eye on the developments. Examples include the Bachelor/Master model, the Minors, the Individual Study contract with individual study assistance, Internationalisation and semi-automatic detection of potential drop-outs. CACI consults intensively with its users about these developments. Furthermore, CACI guarantees that OSIRIS will continue to comply with Dutch legislation. Students are the point of focus in all our developments.

OSIRIS is modular

OSIRIS sub systems help to support the whole process including:
  • intake of students (via Studielink, via OSIRIS Application or via a combination of the two);
  • formulation of the study plan
  • supply of education
  • graduation and certification
  • disenrolment from studies
The various parties involved in this process are helped using target group-specific sub systems.

OSIRIS Application

OSIRIS Application is the self-service function students can use to register at the institute.

This is for students from special target groups. Target groups that do not register via Studielink, such as foreign students who want to come as part of an exchange program, foreign students who want to enrol for a Master's degree, contract students, etc.

For students who register via Studielink, OSIRIS Application offers the possibility of having a supplementary dialogue with the student.

The dialogue and the intake process, can be set up totally as desired by the institute.

OSIRIS Student

OSIRIS Student gives students a detailed insight into how their studies are progressing. This is not limited to the results obtained. The results obtained are also compared with the student's (individual) study contract/exam syllabus. One overview makes it clear where the student stands and what they still have to do.

If the student still has to do a particular course or minor, they can enrol in that directly. The student can also use the handy search functions to consult the full range of courses of the institute to find a suitable course/minor. For instance, to fill in the free space in the exam syllabus.

Besides enrolling in and withdrawing from courses and minors, students can also apply for a degree, pass on details about changes of address and see their personal (weekly) timetable. OSIRIS Student can also be used as a channel of communication between students and supervisors.

All features in OSIRIS Student can be seamlessly integrated with the portals of specific institutions.

OSIRIS Lecturer

OSIRIS Lecturer can be used to enter, change and electronically sign results. In addition, attendance lists, passport photo lists and timetable information can be requested.

A great deal of attention has been paid in OSIRIS to the efficient processing of results by the teachers themselves. The teacher records and approves the results online, which are then processed by the administrator. With a click of the mouse, results are finalised and immediately available to the student (via OSIRIS Student). Teachers can also use a spreadsheet to offer the results obtained. Furthermore, overviews are available to the teacher such as an attendance roll. If a digital signature is used, the results can be processed without any intervention from the administrator.

OSIRIS Supervisor

OSIRIS offers (study career) counsellors a dashboard that immediately shows the core information of a student.

How far is the student in their exam syllabus? How is the student ranked in comparison with the other students in their year? Which agreements have been made with this student? A click on the button brings up detailed information. Which results has the student obtained? Which courses is the student enrolled in? Besides consulting information, the counsellor can also make changes: he can record notes, implement agreed changes to the individual study contract and add action points with deadlines. OSIRIS supports the study career counsellor in the design and setting of study plans of individual students.

A great deal of attention has been paid to security because of privacy sensitivity. Thus the access of the counsellor can be restricted to their own students and their own notes.

OSIRIS Manager

OSIRIS Manager features a wide range of reports.

OSIRIS Study Progress

OSIRIS Study Progress consists of eleven separate modules in a logical structure, and forms the core of OSIRIS.

OSIRIS Study Progress features an education-related section and a student-related section.

OSIRIS Study Progress is suitable as a sub-system not only for the registration of data linked to education and students, but also for the design and management of study plans and education programs by the organization as well as the student.

Study programs can be assembled from the courses on offer. The institute can do this, but OSIRIS can also offer the student the possibility of designing his or her own study plan. OSIRIS supports the process of approval and establishing the individual study programs.

OSIRIS Enrolment

OSIRIS Enrolment offers total support for the process of (pre-) application right through to enrolment, whether this is for financed students who register via Studielink or students who register directly.

When it comes to the intake of special target groups, OSIRIS Enrolment is combined with OSIRIS Application (self-service intake application) and OSIRIS International Office (accommodation, grants, visas, etc.).

The enrolment data is coordinated with DUO (IB group in The Netherlands). OSIRIS generates all SM mutations automatically and also processes the responses from the IB group. OSIRIS guarantees timely compliance with all laws and regulations.

OSIRIS Case Management

OSIRIS Case Management is used to streamline requests from students and the accompanying work processes and documents.

OSIRIS Case Management is integrated with the rest of OSIRIS and can be used to convert OSIRIS-related requests & processes into electronic format. For instance, students can personally submit a "request for exemption" via OSIRIS Student. Communication, evaluation and completion of the request can then all take place electronically. The institution can decide which form this process will take. Students can check the status of their requests at any given moment.

There are a wide range of possibilities, from "Exam commission requests" to "Evaluation and supervision of assignments and internships". OSIRIS Case Management automates and stores all processes relating to decisions and important documents.

OSIRIS Link

Agile platform for apps, portals and integration services.

OSIRIS Link provides standardised integration with other applications used by the institution. Communication takes place on the basis of web services (API). With OSIRIS Link, CACI can also assume greater responsibility for setting up, managing and monitoring one or more interfaces/chains. CACI then setup, manages and monitors the entire integration chain.

OSIRIS SaaS - peace of mind with cloud services

More and more institutions are opting for OSIRIS SaaS. The only thing institutions then need is a workplace and an internet connection. CACI is responsible for making OSIRIS available in accordance with an agreed SLA (Service Level Agreement). Seventeen large and small institutions already use OSIRIS SaaS to their great satisfaction. This includes Hanze University of Applied Sciences, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Tilburg University, TU Eindhoven, Utrecht University and HKU. OSIRIS SaaS has become the standard choice for new and, an increasing number of, existing customers.

Why choose OSIRIS in SaaS at CACI?
    An overview of the advantages.

    Our core business

CACI knows how OSIRIS works better than anyone. We make sure OSIRIS continues to run effectively so institutions can focus on their core activities.

    Best Practices

We are experts in the solutions we offer and have extensive experience; this allows us to implement all relevant best practices.

    Proactive monitoring

To limit failures and respond to potential problems as quickly as possible, we have developed a management method that allows us to continuously monitor the implemented architecture.

    Always up-to-date

CACI makes sure new releases and patches are installed on time, which means institutions are always up-to-date (naturally, this takes place after consultation).

    Fixed price per year

OSIRIS in SaaS means you will not encounter unexpected costs.

    Support

You only have to remember a single number; CACI will be your only point of contact for all technical issues relating to OSIRIS.

    Secure

Our ISO 27001 certification means you are guaranteed a secure environment.

    Integration as a Service

More and more institutions will start placing interfaces outside their infrastructure because systems will be purchased as SaaS. OSIRIS Link is crucial in such situations because it ensures reliable integration without having to use your ICT infrastructure. In short, integration as a service. CACI makes sure everything works.
    • CACI supplies the interface (standard adapter) or constructs a tailor-made interface
    • CACI manages the interfaces and makes sure they continue to be compatible with new OSIRIS releases
    • CACI actively monitors the performance of interfaces and we respond immediately if problems are encountered
    • CACI uses modern technologies as well as ISO 27001 and ISAE 3402 certification to make sure interfaces are safe
    Reliable

OSIRIS Link is reliable because of the used technology and how this technology is implemented by CACI. OSIRIS Link is secure, robust, scalable and ready for the future.

OSIRIS Link runs on the Redhat Openshift platform: a modern platform based on container technology. This technology makes OSIRIS Link robust (if a container falls over, it will be automatically replaced by new container) and scalable (automatically place or remove containers whenever necessary). Third-party resources can also be implemented to cope with peak moments (e.g. Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure). OSIRIS Link is also multi-tenant (containers are shared by institutions) and new versions of the software (e.g. a new version of a system interface) are rolled out automatically.

CACI is ISO 27001 and ISAE 3402 certified, which means a comprehensive approach to security and privacy is adopted within organisations.

Technical security has been an integral part of OSIRIS Link ever since it was designed. OSIRIS Link is compatible with your authentication systems, federated authentication systems like SURFconext or systems based on the broadly accepted SAML protocol. Authorised access is guaranteed because all communication with OSIRIS takes place via OSIRIS Link.

    Short development process

We are not bound to the OSIRIS release calendar when it comes to developing interfaces. Interfaces can be developed quickly using the comprehensive library of OSIRIS services, and can be made available via Link.

Interfaces are developed in an ‘agile’ manner; new and immediately testable versions are made available via short sprints.

JBoss Fuse, which is an Enterprise Service Bus that is part of the Redhat Openshift platform, is used to effectively connect the systems. This is where transformations and data routing takes place, and where authorised access to OSIRIS is safeguarded. OSIRIS Link uses JBoss Fuse to support more than 150 protocols, including SOAP/XML, REST/JSON, JDBC, file, FTP/SFTP and HTTP/HTTPS. Besides web services, OSIRIS Link also supports file-based services. In this case, services can be ‘on-demand’, ‘event-based’ or ‘scheduled’.

You probably already have a service bus within your application landscape. OSIRIS Link can be used to easily connect to your current service bus. On the one hand, via the API (web services) provided by OSIRIS Link. On the other hand, using interfaces to branch off towards your service bus (during system integration).

    Web- en Mobile services

OSIRIS Link offers a web services-based API to integrate your Portal and Apps. Wherever possible, this API will be based on standards. Besides standard services, tailor-made services can also be realised.

CACI uses the above mentioned API to offer the OSIRIS Student App and OSIRIS Mobile Services on the portal of the institution. For instance, this is essential during complex functions like registering for courses or exams, or when displaying a study progress overview. CACI will modify the OSIRIS Student App to suit your corporate style and will also maintain it. OSIRIS Mobile Services can then be used to inform students about new information like exam results via the institution's portal. Students can then use the institution's portal (deep linking) to check out the exact details of results in OSIRIS Student.

Naturally, besides OSIRIS, other sources will also be connected to OSIRIS Link. For example, it is easy for you to display timetable information (stored in the Syllabus) in the OSIRIS Student App.

    The power of the community

For many years, the OSIRIS community has been proving that a successful product can be created if functionality is developed together. The introduction of OSIRIS Link will now allow this collaboration-based approach to be expanded even further.

As a source system for student and course-related data, OSIRIS has many interfaces with other systems. This includes your IMS (Identity Management System), LMS (Learning Management System), financial system and planning and timetabling system. Some of your systems probably run in SaaS while others run on your own hardware (on-premise).

Some of your interfaces will be standard (used by several institutions) while others will be tailor-made (you are the only user). Many interfaces are still tailor-made. Standardisation is currently in its infancy. OSIRIS Link supports both standard and tailor-made interfaces. But more importantly: OSIRIS Link is a platform with ‘Best Practices’ from various other institutions and features tailor-made interfaces that will slowly evolve into standard solutions.

Help students in their preferred manner

Mobile apps are now fully integrated into the personal lives of students. OSIRIS allows service-oriented educational institutions to also offer students essential mobile information and self-service tools during their studies. Educational institutions can use OSIRIS Student to enable students to map out and monitor their studies online. Thus gain insight into their lesson timetable any time, anywhere; exchange messages; register for studies, exams or minors online; and, of course, immediately access study results. At the institution, at home or on the road!

    OSIRIS PlanApp

    Flexibility at its best

The PlanApp is an application that allows existing as well as potential students to learn about the various subjects (programmes) and eventually decide how to fill their curriculum. The PlanApp is a one-stop-shop that combines subject/programme-related information with planning possibilities. The planning possibilities feature information about the year, quartile and the time slot when subjects are taught. This means students can learn more about subjects and pick & choose when making programmes for their studies.

The PlanApp is not only useful to students, but also offers employees, like study advisers, the opportunity to ‘see what's going on’. After all, this group also wants to do the same things as students.

The unique thing about the PlanApp is that it allows students to compile a coherent programme of subjects at an early stage. In addition, they can immediately see if the selected programme of subjects can actually be scheduled or if the study path they want can actually be realised in practice. The PlanApp is perfectly compatible with the teaching vision of the TU/e. It is aimed at allowing students to select a programme of subjects which brings them a step closer to following their ideal career once they graduate.

    OSIRIS Analytics overzicht

    Analytics for everyone

Input for OSIRIS Analytics is supplied from the OSIRIS production database, and if necessary from sources like DUO and Studiekeuze123. A historical dimension has been added to the input for OSIRIS Analytics and this dimension is essential when creating analyses. OSIRIS Analytics allows you to travel in time, request information about a specific reference date, or view developments over a longer period of time. Besides adding the 'history’ feature, the data model in OSIRIS Analytics has been simplified ('denormalised') so it becomes easier to create reports with OSIRIS Analytics. Supplying information from the OSIRIS production database to OSIRIS Analytics is a complex process and requires extensive knowledge about OSIRIS. CACI guarantees the reliability of data and makes sure it continues to be compatible (the 'ETL process') with new versions of OSIRIS.

OSIRIS Analytics supports the process of modelling business logic (customer-specific definition of KPI's), visualising reporting data and generating dashboards. OSIRIS Analytics also helps to secure all data. This means it is possible to make Analytics available to all OSIRIS users. Security (authorisation) is essential in this case considering the increasing importance of privacy (AVG, General Data Protection Regulation).

    OSIRIS Analytics as a service

OSIRIS Analytics is available as a service and is being added to the existing Service Level Agreement (SLA) between your institution and CACI. This will help to ensure continuity as well as a high level of availability, security and compatibility with new releases of OSIRIS.

    Solid foundation

OSIRIS Analytics gives you solid foundation for realising reliable management information. Reliable management information which, thanks to the OSIRIS authorisation structure, is easily made available de-centrally. In short: OSIRIS Analytics allows you to focus on analysing and managing education. OSIRIS Analytics is also able to optionally supply input for your data warehouse.

    Fast results

OSIRIS Analytics is synonymous with fast results. Our consultants can help you reach impressive results quickly. To do that, we use an agile approach.

Agile working involves working intensively and specifically on dashboards/reports in short periods of time (sprints). OSIRIS Analytics is extremely suitable for this agile approach. Data is ready to use in an appropriate format and can be modelled and presented in close collaboration with your institution. This involves adding institution-specific business rules to OSIRIS Analytics.

The agile development method divides projects into smaller parts, with each report/dashboard being individually developed in short sprints. Handover takes place after each sprint, so users can start testing immediately. Received feedback can then be taken into account during the next sprint. This agile method is tried and tested, and is effective because it encourages specific and intensive collaboration.
